Neath Port Talbot Council and Swansea University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to help them work more closely on vital areas of common interest such as working effectively with industry and supporting the development of vital skills for the region. South Wales Police is continuing to investigate the death of a 64-year-old man in Butetown, Cardiff. He has been formally identified as Ibrahim Yassin. Police were called to his home in Belmont Walk shortly after 9am on Sunday, February 18 to a report of a serious assault. A 38-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of murder. He required hospital treatment and is now in custody at Cardiff Bay Police Station. Mr Yassin’s family are being kept updated and supported by specially trained family liaison officers. Corris Railway in Mid Wales is appealing for donations to help complete a new southern extension which will eventually double the length of the revived section of line south of Maespoeth Junction. The railway has been cracking on with the building of an embankment, with 20 lorries a day discharging material from the new Dyfi Bridge project at Machynlleth during February. Montgomery Canal Triathlon is set to bring entries from across Britain on May 18 fir the 12th year. The participants will see sections of the Montgomery Canal that have been restored, others where restoration work continues and the remaining sections which still have to be brought back to life. The annual triathlon, starting in Newtown and ending in Shropshire, is one of the most popular cross border events and is organised by the Friends of the Montgomery Canal and supported by the canal owners, the Canal & River Trust.
