Swansea Council is holding early discussions with alternative contractors following news that the original main contractor for the Copr Bay scheme – Buckingham Group – has gone into administration. The Copr Bay scheme stretches from close to the former St David’s Shopping Centre site to the area of the marina. Alarming statistics from the UK’s largest-ever study into online violence against women and girls (OVAWG) has named Wales and Scotland as the nations most affected by the problem, with over 17% of women and girls in both Wales and Scotland having experienced online violence compared with 15% in England and 12% in Northern Ireland. For women and girls in Wales that have experienced online violence, four in five (81%) received text-based abuse on social media via tweets, Facebook posts and direct messages, and almost half (48%) experienced sexually explicit abuse. Katrina Mahoney, 34 has been jailed for causing death by careless driving, while drunk, after she struck Ron Fealey, 82 on Christmas Eve last year. Mahoney drove her vehicle along Avenue de Clichy at 40mph in a 20 mph zone and had drunk twice the legal limit, when she collided with the victim Mr Fealey who was crossing the road on the crossing. She has failed to stop at the scene to offer assistance to Mr Fealey. She drove away with a smashed windscreen leaving bystanders to step into help Mr Fealey and provide emergency care. World-famous musician Sir Brian May has shared the experience of efforts to eradicate tuberculosis on a farm he sponsors in a lecture at Aberystwyth University. Backed by Sir Brian May, south Devon milk producer Gatcombe Farm has been testing strategies to combat the disease. A new ‘destination’ skatepark in Llanrumney has been granted planning permission. Developed by award winning consultants VDZ+A and Newline Skateparks in consultation with the local skateboard community, the new skatepark will replace the existing timber-framed skate facility next to Eastern Leisure Centre.
