Popham Kidney Support, a Swansea-based kidney charity recently received over £5,000 in fundraising on the back of a sponsored walk which spanned the distance of the Pembrokeshire Coastline. Sarah Greenwood completed the 186-mile walk in several stages, beginning in October 2022 and completing the challenge in Tenby on April 8, 2023. Greenwood donated her sponsorship funds to the charity, which aids kidney patients and their families with emotional, financial and informational support, contributing to its fundraising efforts for the Children’s Kidney Centre at Cardiff & Vale University Hospital. Kind-hearted rail contractor, QTS Group, has been working alongside local support organisation Lads & Dads to carry out improvement works at the group’s first allotment in Brackla, Bridgend. QTS, who have been working on the Llanharan to Bridgend line, reached out to Lads & Dads to offer their help, free of charge, for this project. Plans for the Brynhir development will be available to view on Friday 12th May between 4pm – 6pm at Tenby Leisure Centre. An important repair scheme will soon begin to the footbridge at Colliery Street in Trehafod, which provides a key local link into Barry Sidings Country Park. The footbridge will need to be closed to safely carry out the repairs. The Council has appointed Taziker Ltd to deliver the scheme, which will begin on Monday, May 15. In addition to the main works to paint the bridge, the council will also be undertaking masonry and concrete repairs, parapet replacement and final resurfacing. Changes to recycling containers are being introduced in an effort to boost recycling rates. From the beginning of May, the council and our recycling charity partner Wastesavers will be delivering new blue bags for recycling cardboard and paper to use instead of the existing blue box. The council and Wastesavers will be sending a letter and a leaflet out with each new bag to explain how the changes work. The changes are: Cardboard and paper go in the new blue bag.
