Residents living in Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant have an opportunity to have their say on plans for a proposed housing development in the village, Powys County Council has said.

The council is looking to build 18, highly insulated and eco-friendly homes on land to the west of Maes yr Esgob.

The proposed development will consist of two three-bed houses, six two-bed houses, six one-bed houses and four one-bed bungalows.

A pre-application consultation has now started for the proposed development, which will run until Tuesday, January 16, 2024, to allow interested parties to comment on the plans before a planning application is submitted.

If planning permission is granted, the new homes will be owned and managed by the council and allocated to tenants through ‘Homes in Powys’ – the one stop shop for all social housing in the county.

Cllr Matthew Dorrance, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for a Fairer Powys, said: “One of the priorities of the council is to tackle the housing emergency in the county and this can be achieved by building high quality council housing.

“Our proposed development Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant is going to be important as we look to meet this priority and build a stronger, fairer, greener future for this community.

“The pre-application consultation is important as it gives the local community an opportunity to have their say on the plans before we submit a planning application.”

The pre-application consultation will close on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
