A manufacturer of eco-friendly paper cups has revealed an appetite for growth by launching a new range of catering products for the takeaway food market. From a standing start 18 months ago, the Green Rock Group in Wrexham has already reached a major landmark as the largest UK maker of fully recyclable plastic-free cups, with the capacity make two billion of them a year. Their cups are used by Premiership football clubs, major breweries, arenas and festivals across the UK. A bakery has invested £2 million in one of the world’s biggest pancake production lines in a move that will create 20 new jobs. The specialist kit was imported from America by the Jones Village Bakery and is up and running just in time for Shrove Tuesday on February 21. It will enable the Wrexham-based family firm to ramp up production to 75 million pancakes a year to cater for the growing demand for them. Over 100 new arrivals will boost the number of nurses in Morriston Hospital thanks to the health board’s first recruitment event in India. A trip to Kochi has led to the employment of 107 nurses, some with 15 years’ experience, to help fill the void of Band 5 nurses within Swansea Bay. The new recruits are a mixture of medical, surgical and theatre nurses, and they will arrive in Swansea in February. When dairy farmers Emyr and Evelyn Wigley retired, they planned to travel, spend holidays in their caravan and go on walking adventures in the British countryside, all things they had put off whilst devoting their time to farming. Tragically, soon into their retirement, Evelyn was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and she passed away aged 69 in 2015. Emyr, who lives at Deytheur, Llansantffraid, on the Powys-Shropshire border, immediately pledged to do something positive to combat ovarian cancer, which he describes as an “evil disease”, as a tribute to her. Young people filled the Council chamber recently as they got involved with Democracy Matters. The event organised by Pembrokeshire County Council Chairman Cllr Pat Davies with the Electoral Services Team and the Children and Young People’s Rights Office was well attended by invited youngsters.
