A new community allotment plot providing support to people affected by Cancer has opened at Cardiff Council’s Forest Farm allotment site. Once overgrown and out of use, the plot has been brought back into use by the local allotment society in partnership with two Cancer support charities, Maggies and Ray of Light Cancer Support Wales. “We created a pond during lockdown,” explained allotment site representative Phil Graham, “and Maggies got in touch about the possibility of a walking group that they run taking a break by the pond. A woman who survived stage four bowel cancer is urging others to support Cancer Research Wales to help fund its life-changing work. Rachel Reed was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2018 aged just 33 after 18 months seeking answers for symptoms including abdominal pain and tiredness. The diagnosis came as a shock to Rachel who said she thought herself “cancer proof” as she was always active and took care of her health. South Wales Police has issued an update following a disturbance on Poets Close, Rhydyfelin, at approximately 00:40hrs on Tuesday, September 23. Three males, all in their 20s, were taken to hospital with injuries. The man who died has been formally identified as 22-year-old Liam Woolford from Porth. The other two men remain in hospital.
