Close to 110,000 – that’s how many visitors Swansea Arena has attracted since first opening its doors about six months ago. Developed by Swansea Council and run by Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG), the arena stands at the heart of the city’s new £135m Copr Bay district. Jeremy Miles MS, Minister for Education and the Welsh Language in the Welsh Government, visited Fochriw Primary School to see their Curriculum for Wales journey, present a Welsh Language Award and celebrate National Poetry Day. The Minister had a tour of the school, led by representatives from the school’s pupil voice groups and the headteacher, Sharon Pascoe. Transport for Wales are undertaking a programme of essential maintenance works to help ensure the safety and reliability of the railway, and to prepare for the upcoming South Wales Metro. This programme of work will require a temporary station closure between 10th October 2022 and 22nd November 2022. Minister for Social Justice Jane Hutt alongside Scottish Minister for Social Security, Ben MacPherson and Northern Ireland’s Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey are urging the UK Government to take immediate action to tackle the cost-of-living crisis. In their joint letter, issued after a meeting with devolved ministers last week, the Ministers called for: an immediate emergency uplift of £25 to all means-tested benefits including legacy benefits; abolition of the benefit cap and the two-child limit; and a benefit take-up campaign. Climate Change Minister Julie James has provided a major update on building safety in Wales following constructive meetings with developers. The Minister provided a number of key updates which included progress on the Welsh Government’s Developers Pact – a pledge designed for companies to confirm their intention to address fire safety issues in buildings of 11 metres and over in height that they have developed over the last 30 years.
