The cost to park at district car parks across Cardiff will change on Monday, February 6th, under plans to help residents and shoppers secure parking which is currently being taken up by commuters. The first two hours of parking will remain free of charge at all district car parks across the city, but prices will then rise dependent on how long someone parks. Under the current system, after the first two free hours, in the majority of these car parks, a flat rate is charged for all-day parking. The new system will only allow five hours parking in total. Soup nights at County Hall have been such a success the initiative has been extended for another two months. Over four Thursday evenings in January around 120 people of all ages enjoyed free soup and bread thanks to generous donations from Council suppliers and staff volunteers. The pop-up scheme will now continue on a Thursday evening throughout February and March using Cost of Living funding with tomato soup and leek and potato soup on offer today (February 2nd). Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Leader, Councillor Andrew Morgan, has been awarded his OBE from HRH The Prince of Wales at an investiture ceremony held (Wednesday, February 1) at Windsor Castle. It was announced last June that Councillor Morgan, Elected Member for Mountain Ash, was awarded the OBE in The Queen’s Birthday Honours. Her Majesty The Queen sadly passed away on September 8, 2022. Caerphilly County Borough Council has submitted an outline planning application to develop up to 23 residential units at the site of the former Aldi store in Rhymney. The vacant Aldi store was demolished in 2014 and the land has remained predominantly vacant since, apart from temporary uses such as a Covid centre during the pandemic. Highfield Court in Newbridge has recently been transformed thanks to an investment of £1.49 million from Caerphilly County Borough Council. Extensive improvements were undertaken at the sheltered housing scheme to modernise the facility and ensure it meets the needs of current and future residents. Demolition has now begun at the derelict former Ty Darran care home in Risca. Caerphilly County Borough Council has earmarked the site for an innovative new later living scheme, which will replace several existing sheltered housing schemes in the locality programmed for closure. Work has officially begun on the new £2.9m state-of-the-art community hub earmarked for the communities of Magor and Undy.
