A long term vision to create new energy efficient homes in a Swansea community is being unveiled. Swansea Council is working with architects to develop plans for more than 100 new homes on former housing land in the Bonymaen community. A number of sites have been identified along Brokesby Road in Bonymaen where the new homes could be developed, creating a new modern community and tackling the increasing housing shortage in the city. A new initiative offering private landlords the chance to rent out their properties through Neath Port Talbot Council has been given the go ahead. Members of the council’s Social Services, Housing and Community Safety Cabinet Board agreed to implement the Welsh Government’s Leasing Scheme Wales (LSW) at their in December 2022. Under the arrangement, the council will lease properties from private sector landlords and sub-let the properties to those it has a duty to protect from homelessness. The next stage in improving facilities for pupils at Portfield School will be decided at Pembrokeshire County Council Cabinet’s first meeting of 2023. The submission of the Outline Business Case (OBC) for plans to improve the condition of school buildings and increase capacity at the school for children and young people with complex needs is recommended for approval by senior Councillors on Monday, 9th January. A new pilot programme to support schools in tackling the impact poverty has on attainment has been launched. Seven headteachers from across Wales have been recruited as Attainment Champions. The team brings together headteachers from across Wales who have a wealth of experience and have already helped shape key national policies and overseen community inspired projects. The pilot will run for six months with the role of the Attainment Champion providing peer-to-peer support to schools and to help inform Welsh Government policy around educational attainment drawing on their own experience and sharing best practice. The latest data shows the prevalence of flu, COVID-19 and other seasonal respiratory viruses has increased over the Christmas period and remains at very high levels.
