A newly redeveloped skatepark in Pentwyn was officially opened this week. Parc Coed y Nant skatepark is avibrant new facility designed to serve young people and the wider community of Pentwyn. Located behind Pentwyn Leisure Centre, the park replaces outdated equipment with a modern 300m² concrete SPOT-style design, developed following extensive community consultation and input from local ward members. The redevelopment has been delivered as part of the Council’s Neighbourhood Renewal Scheme programme and with funding from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund. A successful Welsh Government business support programme has boosted the revenues of participating businesses by more than £60 million through exporting – with a further 15 companies now chosen to accelerate their export potential and grow further through international trade. Staff at travel and leisure company TUI say they’ll be proud to work at a new office development in Swansea city centre. TUI are among a number of tenants already confirmed for the 71/72 Kingsway scheme at the former Oceana nightclub site. Developed by Swansea Council and part-funded by the Swansea Bay City Deal, the development will accommodate up to 600 jobs. TUI staff currently based at Alexandra House will move there in the coming weeks, helping to retain jobs in the city centre. A new Oysho Cardiff Half interactive Daily Mile challenge has been launched for schools across Wales to take get involved with all the excitement as race day approaches. Run 4 Wales has partnered with Run Wales at Welsh Athletics to launch the free initiative which is designed to inspire children to move in a fun, simple and flexible way – all while encouraging links with learning and the community. CARDIFF-based fabricator Dudley’s Aluminium has secured three new projects within the education sector as the new academic year begins. Dudley’s Aluminium will work alongside Wilmott Dixon to install Kawneer curtain walling, windows and doors on two projects: Glyncoch Primary School based in Rhondda Cynon Taf, an English medium primary school which is being built to Passivhaus standards, and Airfield Primary Academy, a 630-place school in Weston-super-Mare. A 20-year-old Mid Wales chef, who this week aims to outcook rivals from across Europe, has been described as a role model for Welsh apprentices. Gabi Wilson, from Rhayader, is representing Team UK in the cooking competition at EuroSkills Herning in Denmark this week until Friday in the latest chapter of a remarkable culinary learning journey. The career of opera star Rhys Meirion has taken an unexpected turn after beating cancer – he’s joined a rock group.
