A newly redeveloped skatepark in Pentwyn was officially opened this week.

Parc Coed y Nant skatepark is avibrant new facility designed to serve young people and the wider community of Pentwyn. Located behind Pentwyn Leisure Centre, the park replaces outdated equipment with a modern 300m² concrete SPOT-style design, developed following extensive community consultation and input from local ward members.

The redevelopment has been delivered as part of the Council’s Neighbourhood Renewal Scheme programme and with funding from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.

Yesterday evening’s official opening was attended by Cabinet Member for Culture, Parks and Events,  Cllr Jen Burke and Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, Cllr Lee Bridgeman along with local members.

Local skateboarders showed off their skills and tricks at the park, while Cardiff Youth Services also attended to engage with young people there.

Cllr Bridgeman said: “The facilities that were here before were in poor condition and underused, despite strong local demand. This redevelopment shows our commitment to investing in spaces that matter to young people and the wider community.”

Cllr Burke said: “This new skatepark is a brilliant example of what happens when we listen to young people and invest in their spaces. Parc Coed y Nant is now a place where creativity, energy and community come together.”
