The Royal Mint has today unveiled a giant portrait of Her Majesty The Queen made entirely out of coins. Working in partnership with Welsh artist Nathan Wyburn, The Royal Mint commissioned the piece in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee. Taking over four days to complete, Nathan helped create the 3m x 3m masterpiece using over 5000 coins including a mixture of £5, £1, 50p, 5p, 2p and 1p coins. This week (Wednesday, 1 June), it was announced that Osian Wynn Davies from Llanfairpwll, Anglesey is the winner of the 2022 Denbighshire Urdd Eisteddfod Drama Medal. This year the competitors were required to write a play or monologue suitable for performance for any medium for no more than two actors, and no longer than 15 minutes. Twins from Merthyr Tydfil are gearing up to exhibit their photographic work at Llandough Hospital. Rhodri and Lewys Watkins, 20, live with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, sometimes shortened to DMD or just Duchenne. It is a rare genetic disease that primarily affects males, and causes the muscles in the body to become weak and damaged over time, and is eventually fatal. Bridgend County Borough Council has secured a grant worth just over £5 million as part of the Welsh Government’s Active Travel Fund. The funding will benefit residents by creating safe and accessible cycling and walking routes which will encourage people to not be so reliant on cars.
