Bridgend County Borough Council has secured a grant worth just over £5 million as part of the Welsh Government’s Active Travel Fund.

The funding will benefit residents by creating safe and accessible cycling and walking routes which will encourage people to not be so reliant on cars.

This will also play a key part in helping Bridgend County Borough Council achieve its target of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The breakdown of the grant will see the funding have an impact right across the county borough:

    • Bridgend to Pencoed (Package of improvements phase three)- £3.46 million
    • Ynysawdre to Bryncethin- £105,000
    • Pyle to Porthcawl (Active travel route phase one)- £387,000
    • Active travel minor crossing improvements- £392,000
    • Core allocation- £707,000

On completion, the whole of Bridgend and Pencoed will be connected without any gaps.

This is a really significant grant for Bridgend County Borough, and it will play a big part in making sure cycling and walking are inviting travel options for everyone.

It’s very important that we have the right infrastructures in place as we want to make it as easy as possible for our residents to travel around the whole of Bridgend County Borough in a way that’s better for the planet.

Councillor John Spanswick, Cabinet Member for Communities
