Bridgend County Borough Council is pleased that Awen Cultural Trust has been awarded a grant from the Welsh Government to reconfigure and modernise Pencoed Library. The registered charity, which manages library services on behalf of Bridgend County Borough Council, will provide match funding to install solar panels on the south-facing roof, contributing to creating a more sustainable building. A new all-weather pitch that will benefit thousands of players in the years to come has been fitted at the Phoenix Centre in Townhill. Swansea Council provided the funding that also included an upgrade to the floodlights at the popular venue. The council is also improving the nearby multi-use-games-area as part of the project that represents an investment of up to £300,000. The centre’s former pitch was laid around 20 years ago and was well used by the community including local sporting clubs. Pembrokeshire County Council has been awarded a £10,000 grant by The National Lottery Heritage Fund to carry out Community Engagement on the future of Haverfordwest Castle. This community engagement will inform planning over the future heritage redevelopment of the medieval castle. A project is offering £10,000 grants to businesses and community groups to develop local food supply chains. The Food4Growth programme in Torfaen, Caerphilly and Monmouthshire has two grant schemes available, aimed at increasing the amount of locally-produced food, creating new food networks and offering a sustainable solution to food poverty. Powys County Council’s new Leader, Cllr James Gibson-Watt, has today announced the membership of his new cabinet and their areas of responsibility. Gottwood Festival and Merthyr Rising will both take place over the weekend of 9-12 June and are looking forward to welcoming back the crowds at both ends of the country. They have received in principle support from the Welsh Government through Event Wales, intended to help the event owners grow and develop the events.
