A £4.1 million investment in Swansea’s Singleton Hospital has made it a UK leader in the diagnosis of cancer and other serious conditions. The nuclear medicine department’s two oldest scanners – one the oldest in the UK – have been replaced with cutting-edge new ones which provide extremely sharp images. The new equipment will help clinicians spot cancers earlier. Singleton is home to the South West Wales Cancer Centre and while the two new SPECT-CT scanners will be used primarily in cancer diagnoses, they will also be used in other specialties – cardiology, for example. The former Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Councillor Jill Bonetto, attended a Help for Heroes veterans’ model-making session, at Rhydyfelin AFC, to give the Charity a cheque for more than £30,000. She was joined by fellow councillors and officers, representatives from the Armed Forces charity, its beneficiaries, and officials from the football club. Independent, city centre restaurant KindleCardiff has been shortlisted for the Sustainability Award in the National Restaurant Awards, the largest annual gathering of top chefs and restaurateurs in the UK. A Bodelwyddan-based construction company has finished a full-scale ward refurbishment inside a major North Wales hospital to meet improved post-pandemic care standards. The RSPCA is urging well-meaning members of the public to avoid putting themselves in danger by rescuing animals after a woman got into difficulty while attempting to reach a sheep. The woman and her partner had gone to a disused limestone quarry at Ilston on the Gower Peninsula after seeing a Facebook post about the ewe, which had become stranded there on a narrow ledge. Wales’ oldest university law department has marked its 120th anniversary with a celebratory event at London’s top criminal court. Law has been taught at Aberystwyth University since 1901, and in the 120 years that have followed more than 9,000 students from almost one hundred countries have graduated and launched their careers from the department.
