A Blaenavon man has been handed a 12 weeks prison sentence suspended for 12 months, after neglecting his shih tzu – who was found in such a suffering state he was unable to move. David Powell (d.o.b 17/04/1967) of James Street, Blaenavon, faced two offences under the Animal Welfare Act in that between July and September 2021 he caused unnecessary suffering to dog Alfie, by failing to carry out the necessary veterinary care and attention for his corneal ulceration, skin disease, anal tumours and skin wounds. A much-awaited public art trail featuring colourful Snoopy sculptures has arrived in Porthcawl to raise money for Dogs Trust. Six supersized statues depicting Charlie Brown’s trusty sidekick from the cartoon strip Peanuts will be located in key locations around the town from today (8 April) until 5 June 2022. The Bute Park Spring Open Day returns over the Easter weekend with a range of free events held in and around Bute Park Visitor Centre, Nursery and Plant Shop. Travellers in Swansea will again be able to board a bus in the city for free during April and the Easter holidays as part of the Free-ride Swansea initiative.  Swansea Council is offering everyone the chance to leave the car at home and get on a bus to travel anywhere in the city. The latest offer will stretch over most of the Easter half term school holidays with free travel available for ten days from 15 – 24 April. A new national monitoring system is being set up to collect  information on suspected suicides as part of a wider approach to prevent future tragedies, the Deputy Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing Lynne Neagle has announced. The Real Time Suicide Surveillance (RTSS) is being launched in partnership with Public Health Wales, all welsh police forces and the NHS Wales Health Collaborative and will collect information relating to sudden or unexplained deaths that are suspected to have been by suicide. The Minister for Health and Social Services, Eluned Morgan has today confirmed Wales’ flu vaccination programme will once again be extended to include those aged 50 and over and secondary school children in academic years 7-11 (11-16 years old). This is the second year the programme has been extended, which means that more than 1.5m people in Wales will be eligible for a free vaccine again this year.
