Lewis Homes have begun work on 76 new homes at Woodlands Green in Tonyrefail as the first occupiers move in to their new homes at Dôl Werdd, Plasdŵr in August. A £3.3 million funding package from the Development Bank of Wales has enabled work to start on the Tonyrefail site with the 61 private plots having all been reserved, subject to contract. Voluntary groups in the Caerphilly county borough are now able to apply for funding to support food related community projects. Caerphilly County Borough Council has received funding from Welsh Government and the Welsh Local Government Association to provide local groups with Food Poverty Grants for a second year. Capital and revenue funding is available for projects to support the increased number of people facing food poverty. Capital funding can be used to support organisations in accessing, storing and distributing food; this could include the purchase of fridges, freezers and cooking equipment. RCT Council has now agreed its expanded School Holiday Enrichment Programme (SHEP) for young people across 15 settings this summer, which will include daily activities and the provision of healthy meals. The Programme, also known as the ‘Food and Fun Programme’, will take place in 13 mainstream schools and two special schools from July 21 to August 5 – a full list of those settings is included below.
