Early stage plans to develop what could be the largest council owned solar farm in Wales will be considered by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet today (Wednesday 23rd June). A report to the council’s Cabinet will seek £434,000 funding to progress feasibility and develop a full business case for a Caerphilly-based solar farm proposal. RCT Council is giving advanced notice of disruptive works to Ynysmeurig Bridge in Abercynon which will take place later this summer – requiring a road closure of the main road and a significant diversion for motorists and bus users. The structure supports the B4275 near River Row, and requires a major repair scheme which cannot be safely completed without a road closure. This phase of work has therefore been scheduled to take place during the school summer holiday to minimise disruption to the community. Euros excitement came to Kilgetty AFC in Pembrokeshire over the weekend, as the grassroots football club hosted a professional coaching masterclass with former Wales international Matt Jones. ASH Wales is calling for Welsh Government to protect children’s health by banning smoking in Welsh beer gardens. It wants legislation that came into force in March banning smoking in the grounds of schools, hospitals and in playgrounds, to be extended to the outdoor seating areas of pubs, bars and restaurants. A fully funded after-work programme designed to support more young people into starting businesses is set to launch in Rhondda Cynon Taf. A 2020* UK survey found that 64% of the workforce wished to start a business, and of those, 83% were aged between 18 and 24.
