Cardiff and Vale University Health Board has announced some changes to parking and travel to improve access to its hospital sites for patients, visitors and staff. During the pandemic, the health board lifted all parking restrictions temporarily, but increasing on site activity has led to higher demand for car parking spaces. This has resulted in difficult and unsafe parking conditions and increased congestion on site. Enhancing access to hospital services for children with the help of technology is the aim of a pilot project in Swansea Bay. Virtual live consultations will be tested for referrals from primary care. The aim is to reduce the need for children and their families to visit the hospital to be assessed, avoiding disruption and unnecessary travel for them. Dr Pramodh Vallabhaneni, a consultant paediatrician, is introducing the project to help streamline the process. A Wrexham-based engineering firm has been praised for their “quick-thinking and kindness” after helping RSPCA Cymru come to the aid of a stricken bird. RSPCA officers were alerted after a gull was spotted caught by his wing to a communication aerial approximately 30-feet from the ground, at a warehouse on the Wrexham Industrial Estate. Unfortunately, no suitable ladders were available to reach the troubled bird – so RSPCA inspector Phil Lewis visited the yard of the nearby JB Fabrication (Wrexham) Ltd, a North Wales-based engineering contractor. Two drivers who caused the death of a beloved grandmother days before Christmas, as they raced along a valleys road at speeds of up to 100mph, have been jailed. Witnesses described seeing Levi Edwards and Morgan Sansom “driving like idiots” shortly before Edwards lost control of his red BMW and collided with a car being driven by 84-year-old Shirley Hope on the afternoon of December 20, 2019.
