Transport for Wales reaches a key milestone with the opening of the South Wales Metro Infrastructure Hub. As the new hub from which TfW will deliver the next phase of the transformation of the valley railway lines for the South Wales Metro, the facility at Treforest includes distribution facilities and management offices. Leading pet food company Burns Pet Nutrition is set to improve the health and wellbeing of rescue animals in Wales by providing pet food and donations to animal charities across the country. STUDENTS have joined forces with a wildlife organisation to help save the red squirrel population from extinction. Level 3 NVQ Animal Management learners at Coleg Cambria Llysfasi built feeders and nest boxes for the animals and monitored their progress at enclosures in Clocaenog forest, near Ruthin, during a reinforcement project. They have been supporting the work of Red Squirrels Trust Wales and Natural Resources Wales, who are fighting to save the species following a century-long decline in numbers. The fundraising appeal to save paddle steamer Waverley has reached its £2.3 million target just seven months after it was announced that the famous steamship would not operate in 2019. The Boiler Refit Appeal has attracted donations from over 8,000 individuals with support from the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society, several trusts and £1 million from the Scottish Government.
