The waiting is over and the shortlist of finalists for this years Pembrokeshire Tourism Awards being held in association with Wales Cottages has been announced. Banning pupils from using mobile phones at a high school a year ago has made a “massive difference” and even helped improve exam results. Ann Webb, the headteacher at Ysgol John Bright, in Llandudno, said the pupils were now much more sociable while they were in school and concentrated better in lessons. The strict rule applies at any time during the school day, even during breaks or at lunchtime. Two expert human resources practitioners have joined forces to create a company which provides outsourced HR advice and support to businesses across Cardiff, Newport and Monmouthshire. At the start of the new academic year, Cardiff Metropolitan University announces its ambition to become a smoke-free university within a year. Today, the university, which hosts more than 10,000 students across two sites in the city, has launched plans to become a clean-air campus, creating a healthier environment for staff, students and visitors. Officers investigating a road traffic collision in which a three-year-old boy was seriously injured, are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. South Wales Police was called to the incident on Garth Avenue, Glyncoch, Pontypridd, shortly after 4.30pm yesterday (Sunday, September 22). The child, a pedestrian who lives locally, was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, where he remains in a critical condition. The driver of the vehicle – a silver Ford Fiesta – was uninjured. This National Eye Health Week (23 to 29 September 2019) RNIB Cymru is encouraging people across Wales to book a sight test. Currently in Wales there are an estimated 111,000 people living with sight loss, a figure that is set to double by 2050. According to the charity, half of all sight loss is avoidable, which is why RNIB Cymru is urging people to take simple steps to protect their eye health.
