Banning pupils from using mobile phones at a high school a year ago has made a “massive difference” and even helped improve exam results. Ann Webb, the headteacher at Ysgol John Bright, in Llandudno, said the pupils were now much more sociable while they were in school and concentrated better in lessons. The strict rule applies at any time during the school day, even during breaks or at lunchtime. Officers investigating a road traffic collision in which a three-year-old boy was seriously injured, are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. South Wales Police was called to the incident on Garth Avenue, Glyncoch, Pontypridd, shortly after 4.30pm yesterday (Sunday, September 22). The child, a pedestrian who lives locally, was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, where he remains in a critical condition. The driver of the vehicle – a silver Ford Fiesta – was uninjured. Currently in Wales there are an estimated 111,000 people living with sight loss, a figure that is set to double by 2050.
