Young people from Tredegar have been praised for taking action to improve their local community after organising a clean-up of a skate park as part of Volunteers’ Week. The initiative, led by young people who attend Stocktonville Youth Club, brought together families, local police officers and fire service representatives to help tidy and improve the popular community space. Powys County Council is responding to a cyber security incident affecting some school systems, which has resulted in unauthorised access to some personal data. The incident was initially identified in April 2026 and was contained quickly. Immediate and robust action was taken to secure systems and limit further impact. Specialist experts and partners are supporting a detailed and ongoing investigation. Early findings confirm that some personal data relating to pupils, staff and others connected to the school has been accessed from one school. Bird keepers are being advised that ‘Low risk does not mean no risk’ as the all-Wales Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) has today been lifted. Mandatory biosecurity measures for poultry and other captive birds were introduced in January 2025 to help prevent the spread of avian influenza from wild birds or any other source. Detectives investigating a stabbing in Gabalfa, Cardiff, have arrested a 17-year-old boy. The suspect from Caerau, Cardiff, remains in custody on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of a knife, possession of cannabis with intent to supply, and assault by beating. A woman from Carmarthenshire has been jailed after she committed a series of offences against the same victim on one day whilst under the influence of Class A drugs. 26-year-old Elizabeth Jones, from Llanelli, admitted to having been using crack cocaine in the days leading up to the offences, which included threats to kill, an assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentional strangulation and criminal damage to property of value under £5,000.
