Steve Borde joined the Council’s waste management team as a refuse collector on January 8th 1973. Working for the Council since he was 17 years old, Steve worked for the Council for 46 years, before sadly passing away following a short term illness on July 24th this year. Steve was a very popular member of the team at Lamby Way, and although he took short term retirement in 2018, he wanted to continue to work for the council for three days a week as he was dedicated to his job. South Wales Police is appealing for witnesses to a serious road traffic collision involving a silver Toyota Corolla and a dark blue Peugeot 207  at approximately 11:10am yesterday (Wednesday, August 7). A 76-year-old female passenger of the Peugeot is in a critical condition at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital. Three others were also taken to hospital with minor injuries –  two men aged 83 and 47 from the Peugeot and 71-year-old female driver, and sole occupant, of the Toyota. South Wales Police is investigating a series of robberies in Bute Park on Saturday, August 3 – the day of the Man Utd v AC Milan game and the Homeless World Cup Final. Two boys aged 15 and 16, and a 15-year-old girl, have been arrested in connection with the robberies and released on bail pending further enquiries. Between 7.30pm and 11pm, five reports were received of young people approaching strangers and making demands of money and stealing property such as money and mobile phones. Wales’ largest celebration of diversity and equality is set to create its biggest throwback yet, as artists from the 90s will join the stage for Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend. RSPCA Cymru is appealing for information after a badly-injured skewbald stallion was found on Cardiff’s Rover Way. The horse is some 15-hands high and was found with wounds to both flanks which had been inappropriately treated with iodine spray. Sadly, the stallion, thought to be aged around 15, was found with ulcers in both eyes, lacerations to his body and was lame on his left hind. A Cardiff-based construction company has been appointed to redevelop the former Royal Mail building in Newport. [aoa id=”1″] Troika Construct has been appointed to transform the building on Mill Street, after its success working on Chartist Tower in the city.
