RHYL’S air, sea, and land cadet forces have been given new honours. Rhyl Town Council is to have its own Mayor’s Cadets, helping to raise the profile of the work carried out by various groups in the town. Over 12 months, the cadets will officially accompany each year’s mayor to certain civic engagements. Rhyl Sea Cadets will hold the title for the year ahead with Lance Corporal Alan Hill set to accompany current mayor Cllr Win Mullen-James. To celebrate Geraint Thomas’ Tour de France win, hundreds of cyclists from Cardiff took to the streets in a lap of honour for the city’s own Welsh winner. The lap of honour began outside the National Assembly building in Cardiff Bay, before crossing the barrage and heading up the Taff Trail to Cardiff Castle. Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend faces an uncertain future with less than a month to go as organisers and Cardiff Council are yet to finalise a deal that sees the event return to its City Centre location this summer. Last year, the festival moved to the Civic Centre from its regular home in Bute Park because of the UEFA Champions League Final. This year teams ran in a relay format through the main Caerphilly Big Cheese site, over the bridge to the Castle’s rear entrance and back to the main site. Thousands of visitors watched the whole of the race from the event site cheered on this year’s competitors. The Wales Farm Safety Partnership will receive £46,000 to promote Health and Safety within the agricultural and forestry sector, Cabinet Secretary for Energy, Planning and Rural Affairs Lesley Griffiths announced this week. The funding will be used to support the Partnership’s campaign ‘Working together to make farming safer’.
