A Famous Denbighshire bird colony has celebrated its 20th anniversary with another successful season for protecting the rare summer visitors. This year marks the 20th year Denbighshire Countryside Service has managed the Little Tern colony at Gronant Dunes. The site is the largest breeding colony found in Wales. It is known internationally as it contributes to over 10 percent of the entire UK breeding population as well as supplementing other colonies. The brand-new Fairwater Community Campus has accomplished its topping out milestone, as construction reaches the highest point at the new£110m pioneering education campusin Fairwater. Specsavers’ decision to expand into larger premises in Haverfordwest is further proof of the confidence of businesses in the future of the County Town. That was the message from Pembrokeshire County Council Deputy Leader Cllr Paul Miller to news that the leading optometry company will move to larger premises at the Riverside Shopping Centre. Specsavers has signed a lease with the Council to expand into the building previously occupied by Boots and Poundland. Important Welsh Government funding has been secured to help progress a significant flood alleviation scheme at Arfryn Terrace in Tylorstown – to invest in further protection measures for the community in the years to come. The community around Arfryn Terrace experienced flooding events in 2021 and 2023, and the Council has since undertaken a series of activities towards reducing future flood risk. These included advanced works last year at Park Street – to reduce surface water flooding and deliver a knock-on improvement for nearby streets including Arfryn Terrace and Brynheulog Terrace. A new report by leading planning and development consultancy Lichfields calls for a more comprehensive housing strategy in Wales. Whilst efforts to increase the supply of low-carbon social housing are commendable, Lichfields’ analysis reveals that this narrow approach misses the larger picture.
