Work is ongoing to connect a local Rhyl community with the wellbeing benefits of a new nature site. Development of the new Community Nature Space adjacent to Ffordd Elan Park at Llys Brenig on the Park View Estate is continuing this summer ready for project completion by December. This work accompanies three other Community Nature Spaces being established by the Council this year at St Asaph, Henllan and Clocaenog. Cardiff Council has earmarked 71 existing and former pubs, clubs and social or cultural venues for inclusion on the city’s Local Heritage List. The move seeks to recognise and preserve these buildings for their positive contribution to the city’s culture and visual distinctiveness. Work is due to begin on an ambitious £12m project to modernise visitor facilities and restore historic features at Neath Port Talbot Council’s much loved Gnoll Estate Country Park attraction. The work, which will take approximately a year to complete, is designed to enhance facilities within the park for regular visitors, bring out the historic significance of the park and attract visitors from further afield. The first phase of Pembrokeshire County Council’s Glasfryn housing development in St Davids is progressing well with the second phase also underway. The development being built by GRD Homes Ltd, began in November 2023, with a first phase completion date of Winter 2024 looking hopeful, ahead of the scheduled plans. RCT’s cabinet has received a progress report on the redevelopment of the Marks and Spencer site in Pontypridd Town Centre, following its recent demolition. Members considered the latest progress on developing the overall plan for the site, and approved the next stages of the scheme. As part of the Council’s Pontypridd Town Centre Placemaking Plan that was agreed in 2022, the former Marks and Spencer/Dorothy Perkins site at 97-102 Taff Street has been earmarked for development – as part of a new Southern Gateway to Pontypridd. Berw Road Bridge (White Bridge) in Pontypridd has reopened to two-way traffic and pedestrians following major repairs to the Listed structure. The Council’s most recent update on July 12 confirmed that the scheme had entered its final stages. In recent days, final resurfacing and white lining work has been completed on the bridge, while the installation of an illuminated handrail providing streetlighting has been installed. Resurfacing work nearby at The Parade has also progressed, with the completion of the two schemes being coordinated to avoid further disruption in the future. After months of work, Newport City Council can confirm that the first phase of improvements at Tredegar Park, a new water play zone, Splash ‘Port, and an upgraded play area, are nearing completion. On a mountain top in Ebbw Vale, a dedicated team of volunteers are busily preparing for the opening weekend of the Steelhouse Rock Festival. The festival, now in its 14th year, is an annual 3-day event attracting over 16,000 visitors and an extensive team of devoted volunteers.
