A Carmarthen garage has secured a six-figure funding package to expand its motor vehicle maintenance and repair business.

Owner of Gordon’s Garage Ltd, Gordon Meakins, used a combined loan from NatWest and Lombard Asset Finance to purchase the freehold of the existing business premises on Cillefwr Industrial Estate.

The funding has also enabled the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment, including new MOT bays and apparatus, allowing Gordon to start offering on-site MOT services to new and existing customers.

A trained motor vehicle mechanic with more than 28 years’ experience, Gordon set up his business in 2006 with just a tool box. Less than 13 years later, Gordon’s Garage has expanded to offer a wide range of services, including motor vehicle repair, maintenance, complex diagnostic work, 24-hour breakdown assistance and recovery.

With an emphasis on training and using up-to-date technology, many local dealerships use the garage because of the expertise and specialised equipment provided.

Gordon’s Garage has an annual turnover of around £200,000 and has recently expanded its team from two to four staff, with the opportunity for a further two employees to support the new MOT services on offer.

Gordon said: “Since starting the business, my goal has always been to acquire the freehold of the premises and increase the services we offer to customers – including on-site MOTs. The funding from NatWest and Lombard Asset Finance has enabled me to do this, helping future proof the business and creating new jobs in the process.”

“Gordon’s Garage is known for offering a professional and friendly service in the local area, and I hope to continue to build on this reputation with our new MOT capabilities, helping us offer a wider range of services to both new and old customers.”

Rob Good, Relationship Manager at NatWest and Hussain Khattak, Senior Relationship Manager at Lombard Asset Finance, helped to facilitate the deal.

Rob said: “Gordon’s passion for his business and his trade is admirable. Since opening the business 13 years ago, the garage has become a great asset to the area, thanks to the bespoke services it offers. The funding will provide Gordon with a strong base for further success and we look forward to supporting his ambitious expansion plans over the coming months.”
