Banners put drivers in the picture about Bridgend’s new camera car

Colourful banners have been designed by school children to publicise how Bridgend County Borough Council’s new camera car will target dangerous parking outside schools.

The car was officially named ‘Roly Patroly’ by Cwmfelin Primary School pupil Thomas Lewis last month after he won a competition, and a second contest was held inviting youngsters to design banners promoting the car’s presence.

Printed banners showing the winning designs were presented to pupils at nine schools across the county borough before the end of term, while certificates and vouchers were handed out as prizes!

As this new camera car will be a friend for children, making the streets safer outside their schools, we thought it would be fun to ask pupils to give it a name and also design banners.

The banner ideas they came up with were fantastic and will really help to spread the message that, during term time, Roly Patroly can record any inconsiderate motorists who park their cars illegally on school keep clear’ zones and other restricted areas that put children at risk.

Councillor Richard Young, the council’s Cabinet Member for Communities

Councillor Young added: “Schools may have broken up for the summer now, but Roly Patroly’s still on duty! During the holidays he will be recording dangerous parking in town centres and other hot-spot areas such as bus stops, pedestrian crossings, clearways and where loading is not allowed. Please park safely and considerately.”
