Brand new one-off documentary Blood, Sweat and Cheer follows Team Wales Adaptive Abilities cheer squad as they prepare for the biggest competition of their lives at the World Cheerleading Championships in Florida.

The programme follows the rigorous months of hard training the Welsh squad take on ahead of the World Championships, where they will have less than 3 minutes to impress the judges and take the title.  When the team arrive in Florida, they discover that their final showdown is with the squad from the biggest cheerleading nation: Team USA.

Cheer coach Sabrina says “Adaptive Abilities is a team of disabled and non-disabled athletes all competing together as one team. These athletes have trained for years in order to be able to try out to get onto this team, so these are the athletes that we are taking to the top in the world!”

Brad is the only boy on Team Wales Adaptive. He explains that having faced challenges due to his autism and ADHD,  the team has made a huge difference in his life. Brad said: “Being around the people at Team Wales has helped me. Once you hit that cheer gym… you’re just happy! It’s your happy place”.

The stakes couldn’t be higher as they approach the World Championship Cheerleading competition. Can this squad from the south Wales valleys defeat the odds and come out on top?

Watch the new BBC programme from Wednesday, 11 January on BBC One Wales, 10.40pm and BBC Three, 9.30pm.
