A 28-year-old man has been jailed after violently assaulting and controlling a woman.

Callum Huw Owen O’Marah, of Gwernydd, Bethesda, appeared at Mold Crown Court on Monday 7th July after admitting engaging in coercive and controlling behaviour, two counts of intentional strangulation and threatening to share an intimate photograph.

Over several months, O’Marah subjected the woman to a continuous stream of domestic abuse.

He controlled the use of her phone and social media and punched, slapped and strangled her on multiple occasions.

O’Marah continued to call and message her every day even after he was arrested and given conditions not to contact her.

He was jailed for three years and nine months.

He was also made subject of a restraining order to protect the victim lasting 10 years.

Civilian Investigator Amy Hall-Jones said: “O’Marah subjected his victim to a series of violent assaults and threatening behaviour that caused her to live in fear.

“I have no doubt these incidents will have a long-lasting effect on her life going forwards, but I hope she is reassured by the sentence imposed.

“Incidents of this kind are difficult to report but I would reassure victims that we will listen to you, support you and fully investigate all reports.

“We remain determined to tackle violence against women and girls, and we will not stop in our efforts to bring perpetrators to justice.”

Anybody who is a victim of domestic abuse or violence should seek support by contacting police or Live Fear Free on 0808 80 10 800.
