Brave adventurers got the chance to abseil down one of Cardiff’s most iconic hotels and raise vital funds for charity in the process.

Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale held its abseil event on Sunday the 21st August 2022 at the St David’s Hotel and Spa in Cardiff Bay which saw 39 courageous people taking on the challenge of abseiling 131ft down the hotel’s facade to raise money for the charity.

So far almost £4,000 has been raised for the charity, which supports local vulnerable and isolated older people.

The weather stayed clear and sunny and the views from the top were a sight to behold! The challenge was professionally coordinated by the team at Dave Talbot – Adventure Events and the team at the St David’s Hotel were behind the fundraiser and keen to offer support throughout the whole process.

Two of the thrill seekers taking on the abseil were Chris and Paul from exterior cleaning and preservation organisation Shield HD. Shield HD were also the generous sponsors for all of the participant keepsake t-shirts on the day.

Chris shared why he and Paul felt it was so important to get involved:

“We have become aware of the local charity work of Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale and were compelled to help and support in any way that we could. As a business operating in the local area, it feels right to give back to those in need living in our local communities. The work that Age Connects provides supporting vulnerable and isolated older people is a lifeline to so many. Paul and I really enjoyed taking on this challenge; it’s certainly been a day to remember!”

Jeff Hawkins, CEO for Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale, said: “I’d like to thank everyone who took part, came to support on the day and has made much needed donations.

“It was a memorable day with all participants feeling rightly proud of themselves and their achievement. What’s more, this challenge has helped raise awareness of the crucial work that our charity carries out in our local communities and generated an impressive amount of money to help ensure we can continue to reach out to those in need.”
