Bridgend-based company secures new patents in United States and Europe

Powerhouse Energy Group (PHE) PLC, based on Brackla Industrial Estate in Bridgend has secured three new patents in the United States and Europe, and has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with B.S. Holdings Limited (BSH) to be the exclusive supplier of 99.999% purity hydrogen for BSH’s proposed Fuel Cell (Penta) H2P project in Ballymena, Northern Ireland.

While terms are still being finalised between project participants – DESNZ, Ecotricity, SONI, and NIE Networks, Powerhouse Energy Group’s Chief Executive Paul Emmitt said: “This is a first of its kind agreement and we are delighted to have entered into the LoI with BSH for this potential DESNZ backed project.”

The company offers a patented Distributed Modular Generation (DMG®) technology treatment of non-recyclable waste streams, converting them to a synthesis gas, from which, valuable products such as chemical precursors, hydrogen, electricity, heat, and other industrial products can be achieved. In this process carbon residue is created, instead of CO₂ being released into the atmosphere.

By focusing on non-recyclable waste materials that would otherwise be discarded or incinerated, Powerhouse seeks to mitigate pollution and provide flexible solutions towards climate change.

Mr Emmitt said: “The continued advances that we have achieved on our patents further outlines the excellent progress that PHE is making, whilst also providing significant protection for our technology, differentiating PHE from others in the waste-to-energy sector. We look forward to providing further updates on this area in due course, but our mission is to offer DMG® as the cleaner method for producing syngas, power, and heat compared to traditional processes.”
