Bridgend Indoor Market will reopen on Wednesday 10 February with essential retailers being able to resume trading.

The market will be open from 9am to 3pm, Monday to Saturday, and five food traders are preparing to reopen. They include a bakery, butcher and delicatessen, as well as fruit and veg, and health food stalls.

A one-way system will be in place with two-metre markings on the floor to help ensure social distancing and hand sanitiser stations available.

Councillor Charles Smith, Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration, said: “The reopening of the indoor market will allow essential retailers to begin trading once again.

“Stallholders have received Covid-19 training along with instructions around maintaining social distancing requirements for both stallholders and customers within the market.

“Those shops that are not yet able to re-open because of the Welsh Government’s essential criteria will be cordoned off until the rules change.

“The market will be monitored to ensure a safe shopping and working environment can be maintained to limit the potential of exposure to the coronavirus.”

The reopening of the market follows the recent announcement that the council’s concessionary rent scheme for market traders has also been extended, with a 50 per cent discount now in place until 31 March 2021.
