    Bridgend plans £700,000 playground refurbishments

A number of children’s play areas across Bridgend County Borough have been earmarked for refurbishment work as part of a £700,000 uplift.

As part of the first phase due to take place early next year, more than 30 play areas are set to benefit from a range of refurbishment works including installation of new equipment or re-laid safer surfaces.

Appraisals were undertaken last month to establish which Bridgend County Borough Council owned play areas would benefit the most from refurbishment.

The sites approved for the first phase of the scheme include:

    Caedu Park, Ogmore Vale
    Evanstown Welfare Park
    Park Terrace, Tondu
    Pwll-y-Garth Street, Kenfig Hill
    The Precinct, Wildmill
    Woodlands Terrace, Caerau

As part of the first phase, a further 28 play areas have been proposed in places across the county borough including Pencoed, Bettws, Blackmill, Caerau, Brackla, Cornelly, Porthcawl, Tondu and Bridgend as well as Braich-y-Cymmer, Nantymoel, Blaengarw, Pen-y-Fai, Nottage and Coytrahen, and Aberkenfig, Llangeinor, Lewistown, Cefn Cribwr and Cefn Glas. These will be finalised at a later date.

It’s exciting to see so many playgrounds earmarked for refurbishment across the county borough.

It is essential that children living in these areas have access to safe, well-maintained and fun areas in which to play and this programme will certainly ensure that.

I would like to emphasise that this will be just the first round of refurbishments and that funding is being sought for more of the 107 play areas in the county borough to be updated.

Councillor Stuart Baldwin, Cabinet Member for Communities
