Bridgend’s ‘Summer of Fun’ events are a hit with local families

Employability Bridgend’s ‘Summer of Fun’ events are already proving popular with local families, with over 150 children attending the first event held at Bryngarw Country Park last week.

The ‘Summer of Fun’ events will be running throughout the school holidays, entertaining children as well as highlighting what the council’s Employability Bridgend team can offer adults.

Maesteg Welfare Park and Bryngarw Country Park will be hosting free activities throughout the summer months. Arts and crafts, games, nature bingo and quiz challenges are just some of the activities available to the children, aged four to 11 years, without the need to book.

An added advantage of the sessions is that children will be spending time outdoors, playing in the parks, both of which have recently received Keep Wales Tidy Green Flag Awards, in recognition of their quality green spaces.

As well as benefitting local children, these events are also aimed at the accompanying adults, to showcase and raise awareness of the support that Employability Bridgend can provide.

The employability programme is designed to help those aged over 16 years who are unemployed, need more hours, a second or new job. It sources vocational qualifications, volunteering opportunities, as well as provides an opportunity to develop personal qualities.

Employability Bridgend are an excellent support service for those seeking employment, as well as those wanting alternative or additional work.

The summer sessions will hopefully succeed in shining a light on the facilities that the team has to offer, as well as having the added advantage of providing fun and entertainment for families throughout the holidays.

Councillor Neelo Farr, Cabinet Member for Regeneration
