After a successful championship in 2019 and following a break in the racing calendar due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Newport will once again host the British Cycling Youth and Junior Track Championships at the Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales.

A key event in the track cycling calendar, the Championships will showcase the best racers from across the country compete for the ultimate status as National Champion. These are the future stars of Team GB and could well go on to compete in races such as the Tour de France, Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games, in the future!

The Championships are being held from the 8th to the 12th of August at the Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales located at Newport International Sports Village. Members of the public are invited to attend the Championships to cheer on the talent on track. Tickets are priced at £5 for a day pass, or weekly passes can be purchased for £15 per person from the Newport live website.

Steve Miller, Cycling Manager at the Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales said “It is great to be able to host and organise the Youth and Junior Track Championships 2022 again after previously hosting the event from 2017 – 2019. These Championships are going to be a brilliant opportunity to showcase what the future of the sport has to offer and see the future of British Cycling competing head-to-head on our track for the National Jersey. The level of racing at this event has never let us down and I’m sure with the field we have signed up you won’t be disappointed this year either.”

The Youth and Junior Track Championships have previously seen titles won by the likes of Sir Bradley Wiggins, Jason Kenny and Laura Kenny. Welsh winners have also included Eleanor Barker, Geraint Thomas, Becky James and Owain Doull.

Newport Live is a non-profit distribution organisation and registered charity, which means the money they make is wholly reinvested into the services and facilities they offer, so all Newport Live customers are supporting the local community through the delivery of these projects and activities.
