Jane Bryant MS, Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government, has visited Caerphilly town centre to view progress on a range of ambitious regeneration schemes that are helping to transform the community.

The Cabinet Secretary was accompanied by Cllr Jamie Pritchard, the Leader of Caerphilly Council, as they viewed a number of exciting ongoing and planned developments.

The schemes form part of the Caerphilly 2035 Placemaking Plan – a bold and ambitious project to enhance and regenerate the town with significant investment from the Welsh Government and Caerphilly county borough council.

The first stop of the visit was to view progress on the new £38million Caerphilly Leisure and Wellbeing Hub. The state of the art facility, which is being built on a brownfield site near the town’s transport hub, will boast an impressive range of modern, fit for purpose facilities for people of all ages and abilities.

The group then viewed the recently demolished indoor market site at Pentrebane Street, which will be transformed into a new flagship town centre development boasting exciting commercial and residential opportunities. The demolition will make way for a £21million development led by housing association Linc Cymru in partnership with the council.

Finally, the visit stopped off at Y Banc – a former commercial bank building which has been transformed into a community ‘meanwhile space’, in a prime location overlooking the historic castle.

Cllr Jamie Pritchard, Leader of Caerphilly Council said, “It was great to welcome the Cabinet Secretary to Caerphilly to see for herself the positive progress that is being made across a number of exciting schemes. Our ambitious Placemaking Plan will help transform Caerphilly and deliver a number of landmark schemes that will breathe new life into this important strategic town centre located in the heart of the South Wales Valleys.”

Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government, Jayne Bryant, said: “Seeing the progress in Caerphilly first-hand shows the real difference this investment is making — to people’s lives and to the communities they call home.

“The new Leisure and Wellbeing Centre is a fantastic example of how Welsh Government investment is creating spaces where residents can come together, stay healthy, and thrive.

“This is about more than buildings — it is about giving people confidence in the place they call home, attracting jobs to the local area, and making sure that regeneration reaches every corner of Wales.”
