Local fundraiser, Liz Davies, from Newbridge in Caerphilly, recently stepped out of her comfort zone and into the skies, to raise money for Cancer Research Wales.
Teacher, Liz, overcame her fear of heights, and swapped her running shoes for a parachute, in a skydiving challenge to raise vital funds for Cancer Research Wales.
Liz has been personally affected by cancer and decided to take part in this extreme activity to give something back to support the fight against cancer, after she had received amazing treatment for her illness at University Hospital Wales, Cardiff. Liz also wanted her skydive to be in memory of her granddad and dad who both passed away from bowel and lung cancer respectively.
Liz said: “Although am terrified of heights, I wanted to raise as much money as possible for a cause close to my heart, so knew I needed to set myself a challenge with a particular fear factor element to it; to get as many people as possible to sponsor and support me. My friends and family knew how much of a hurdle it was for me to overcome and make the jump for Cancer Research Wales, and I can safely say it was all worth the adrenaline rush in the end!”
“On the day of the skydive, the Aircraft team from Swansea, Reg and Tanya, were extremely supportive and made me feel as comfortable as possible, calming my nerves and encouraging me to enjoy the experience. I am so happy that I could support Cancer Research Wales while taking part in an experience I’ll never forget!”
In total, Liz raised an incredible £1554.68, with help from her very own ‘heroes’ – her family, friends and colleagues through coffee mornings and fitness classes. Liz’s fundraising activity doesn’t end there though; she has over 20 races booked in so far in 2018, including her first marathon, all in aid of Cancer Research Wales.
