Caerphilly takes next steps in £500m investment plans

Town of Caerphilly, Wales, United Kingdom.

Earlier this year, Caerphilly county borough council unveiled an ambitious blueprint for the future of the area, which included exciting investment proposals totalling more than half a billion pounds.

The Leader of Council, Cllr Philippa Marsden, is now fronting an eye-catching campaign that shows in detail how the council’s exciting investment strategy, called the Place Shaping plan, is already changing the lives of residents across the county borough.

In total, the Place Shaping plan will deliver more than £500million of investment across all parts of the county borough. The money is split into three distinct parts:

  • £153 million – the amount spent so far between 2017 and 2020 on major investment packages including new school developments, highway improvements including Pwllypant roundabout, council house improvement as part of WHQS and investment in 3G pitches.
  • £129 million – investment currently underway on agreed projects such as demolition of properties on Hafodyrynys Hill, Chartist Garden housing development, WHQS improvements and leisure facilities including a new running track in Oakdale and additional 3G pitch investment.
  • £231 million – Planned investment for the future involving a wide range of proposals that will be subject to consultation and engagement with the community as park of the Place Shaping conversation

Cllr Philippa Marsden, said, “This is by far the biggest investment we have ever made within the county borough, and it demonstrates our unwavering commitment to improve local communities by delivering services from cradle to the grave that are fit for purpose and will absolutely improve the lives of residents. We have already seen massive amounts of money spent in key areas such as housing, education, highways, transport and leisure with plans to invest even more over the coming years.”

She added, “This campaign brings to life this significant investment in all parts of the county borough and highlights the difference they have made on an individual and a community level. More importantly, it helps to focus our future community engagement as we are all a part of Team Caerphilly, so it is vital that we work together to identify the investment needed to create a prosperous future for current and future generations.”

Residents will be asked to play a vital role in helping to shape the proposals, by identifying the missing pieces of the jigsaw to ensure that the council is targeting its investment where it is needed most. Details of how the community can get involved will be announced in the near future.

The campaign includes engaging animations and graphics that will feature a whole host of examples of investment from new school developments, highway improvements, council house improvement, investment in 3G pitches and much more. The campaign plays a key part in the Place Shaping framework as it is designed to really set the scene and engage residents to get involved in shaping their future.
