Cardiff-based law firm and consultancy group, Capital Law Ltd, has appointed a new chief executive to head up its consultancy arm, Capital People.

Dr Jonathan Huish, 49, from Pontyclun, will be responsible for overseeing Capital People’s growth strategy and aligning its consultancy services with Capital Law’s legal services, to expand Capital People’s client base across the UK.

Capital People offers a wide range of consultancy services, including organisational development and HR, strategy, leadership, governance, health and safety and coaching, and delivers training to organisations across the private and public sectors.

Dr Huish is an expert at driving strategic change in organisations. With a background spanning economics, psychology and business leadership, he has held leadership roles at board and senior management levels, within public and private sector organisations across the world.

Jonathan started his career in the financial sector, working at high profile companies such as Standard Chartered and Goldman Sachs – where he won the Goldman Sachs Award for applied economics with a Nobel Prize Winning economist.

He then made the move to the public sector, holding a range of national leadership roles. Over the course of his career, Jonathan has worked with more than 70 major public organisations, including Welsh Government, to support and deliver transformational change and improvement.

Speaking about joining Capital People, Jonathan said: “Throughout my career, my focus has been on developing leadership and driving organisational change to bring out the very best in people. The last decade has demonstrated that strategy, culture and behaviour need to clearly align for organisations to thrive in the evolving context.

“Ultimately, when organisations truly have a culture where people are developed, valued, and have a shared ambition to push for excellence, everyone benefits.

“Now more than ever organisations, across all sectors, are looking for support to bring in new strategies that put people first. This is something I will be helping to deliver in my new role at Capital People, as well as actively developing our client base across the UK in line with the strategy of the wider Capital organisation.”

Alongside his role at Capital People, Jonathan is also Chair of Cadenza, a team of expert practitioners leading and supporting system and cross sector change in public service delivery. He is also the Chair of Trivallis, one of the largest housing associations in Wales, a board member of Community Housing Cymru, and Chair of the Chairs and Vice Chairs’ Strategic Group of Housing Associations in Wales.

Elin Pinnell, Managing Partner of Capital Law, commented on Jonathan’s appointment:

“We started Capital People so that we could offer a complementary service to our clients, which they often need beyond the legal work we do for them. Jon’s experience will undoubtedly strengthen and grow our consultancy.

“Thanks to his track record of strong leadership, both as a board member and in working with executive management teams, he understands the challenges and opportunities that our clients and their staff may encounter, whatever sector they operate in, in Wales and beyond.

“Jon is a great addition to our senior team and his approach fits perfectly with Capital’s values and our way of operating. He will be instrumental in propelling Capital People into the future and I’m excited to work with him.”
