The national airport for Wales is preparing to welcome over 27,000 passengers this Bank Holiday weekend (Friday 23 – Monday 26 August), rounding off what has been the busiest summer in over 10 years.

Many customers are jetting off for some late summer sunshine in popular beach destinations such as Croatia, Egypt, Greece and Spain, for some relaxation before the kids go back to school.

With good weather on the cards in the UK and Ireland this weekend, customers are making the most of the Bank Holiday by planning ‘staycations’ to destinations like Belfast, Jersey Edinburgh and Dublin – all of which are just a short hop from Cardiff.

Customers seeking adventure further afield are flying via Amsterdam Schiphol to the USA, or jetting off via Doha to luxurious getaways in Thailand, Bali and India.

Deb Bowen Rees, CEO of Cardiff Airport, said: “We’re extremely pleased to welcome so many passengers over the busy Bank Holiday, whether they’re jetting off for a well-earned getaway before the holidays are over, or flying in to Wales to visit friends and relatives and experience the local area.

“During this busy period, we’d like to remind passengers to allow extra time to travel to the Airport as roads will be busy with Bank Holiday traffic, and to allow plenty of time to check in and clear security before relaxing in the departure lounge before boarding.”
