Registration has opened for round two of a scheme that has already helped 156 households in Cardiff cut their energy bills and their carbon emissions by installing rooftop solar panels on their homes.

The ‘Switch Together’ solar scheme (previously known as ‘Solar Together’) harnesses the power of collective purchasing to allow residents access to high‑quality, affordable home solar installations.

In just over six months, the first round of switching resulted in:

    • 156 households in Cardiff installing solar panels.
    • 796 kilowatts of clean energy generating capacity installed.
    • 1.1 megawatts of battery capacity installed.
    • £1.3 million of private investment into homes.
    • 40 local installers employed through the programme.

Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Strategic Planning and Transport, Cllr Dan De’Ath, said: “The ‘Switch Together’ solar scheme offers homeowners a simple, cost-effective route to installing solar panels and battery storage at home.

“Whatever your views on climate change, we all know that the cost of energy has gone through the roof in recent years. Residents who have switched to solar through this scheme tell us that it’s already saving them money on two fronts – the cost of the initial installation and on their bills.

“On top of that, because the scheme uses local, fully vetted suppliers, their investment in future-proofing their homes is also helping support jobs and grow skills in our fast‑growing green economy.”

Delivered in partnership with Cardiff Capital Region and iChoosr, the ‘Switch Together’ solar scheme brings together households from across South-East Wales, using their bulk-buying power to drive down installation costs, with fully vetted installers competing in a reverse auction for installation contracts. The result is strong value for money, coupled with trusted recommendations and step‑by‑step guidance throughout the process.
