Cardiff steakhouse to create new restaurant & speakeasy bar

Cardiff steakhouse and late night bar, Pasture, is expanding its High Street venue to create a new ‘small plates’ restaurant and speakeasy-inspired bar.

The well-established restaurant, known for its fire-based cooking, is taking over the neighbouring 1,750 sq ft unit at 11 High Street. At street level a tapas-style restaurant will emulate the ethos of local sourcing, top-quality produce and innovative dishes.

The basement expands the Pasture drinks offering with a contemporary, lounge-styled speakeasy where a variety of local beers and independent wines and spirits are showcased, alongside its inventive cocktail menu, in a relaxed setting.

Pasture’s chef owner Sam Elliott said:

“We started the business in Bristol back in 2018. Cardiff was our first expansion and we absolutely love the city and vibrancy!  We’ve been so thrilled at the success we’ve had in Cardiff, and the people here have been so enthusiastic and supportive of our ethos, that we’re booked out months in advance.”

“It’s an amazing location at the heart of the Castle Quarter and we’re so excited to be able to expand within this site. We’re taking the things that we’re great at – local sourcing, cooking with a bit of added theatre, and creating memorable meals and drinks – and offering them in two new cool and relaxed spaces.”

Pasture is investing heavily in the expansion and expects to create an additional 30 new jobs. The development is currently going through licensing and planning approvals with a view to construction commencing in July and an anticipated opening date in August.

Owen Cahill, Partner at EJ Hales, acting on behalf of landlord Mansford LLP, added:

“Seeing one of the Castle Quarter Estate’s best-performing tenant businesses expanding within the scheme, and thriving post-pandemic, is a big vote of confidence in the ever improving pitch across the Estate and High Street. There is a strong pipeline of businesses locating to, or expanding in the Castle Quarter Arcades and soon the new Castle Quarter Courtyard development.”

“We are thrilled to facilitate the growth of  independent businesses in Cardiff and to see the innovation which they bring which is crucial in attracting more visitors to our high streets and hospitality venues. We congratulate Pasture on building such a successful business in Cardiff so far and look forward to supporting this new venture.”
