Cardiff, The Land of the Lucky!

Cardiff is the capital city of Wales. It is officially known as the city and county of Cardiff. It is the 11th largest city in the United Kingdom. When looking at Cardiff as a vacation destination, it is difficult to see how any other city compares. Cardiff has everything.

Besides the natural beauty of the area, and the wonderful bay, they also feature just about everything you can imagine condensed into a city. This includes, (but is not limited to):

  • National Museums
  • Caerphilly Castle
  • A 76,000 seater sports stadium (in the heart of the city)
  • Shopping malls, shopping centers
  • Arcade malls
  • Fagans National Museum of History
  • Several colleges and universities
  • Castell Coch (castle)
  • Restaurants
  • Festivals and community events
  • Thriving nightlife

Lucky City

There is something else that makes Cardiff stand out above the other cities in Wales. Cardiff was named the luckiest city in Wales when it comes to winning lotteries. For this section of the world, that is really saying something. The National Lottery has been in operation there for 25 years, and in that time they have made 103 millionaires. That is an average of 1 winner every 3-months. But that isn’t all.

Online Gambling

The most current and active way to play and win the lotteries is to play online. Lottoland is the leading online betting site and industry leader in the UK. They do not just feature one lottery, but more than 30, in various countries around the world. They also feature smaller lottos like the Mini Lotto, Irish Lotto, and the new Lotto x5.

When Lottoland checked their data between March and September 2020, more winning bets were placed in Cardiff than any other Welsh town or city. This means, more of all the games mentioned above plus the big lottery.

For the superstitious

Everyone wants to know about the winners. The age of the winners is usually in their 50’s. The luckiest male names are Camden, followed by David and Dale. For the ladies, Ruth is the number one name, Danielle comes in second, followed by Elizabeth in third place.

The top ten luckiest areas in Wales are:

  1. Cardiff
  2. Denbigh (Denbighshire)
  3. Ammanford (Carmarthenshire)
  4. Caldicot (Gwent)
  5. Mountain Ash (Rhondda Cynon Taf)
  6. Treharris (Rhondda Cynon Taf)
  7. Aberystwyth (Ceredigion)
  8. Colwyn Bay (Conwy)
  9. Caerphilly
  10. Bangor (Gwynedd)

So, if you hit close to these demographics, you need to get to your computer or smartphone and try Lottoland. You seem to be in an area that attracts big purses!

Winners for life

We are sure you have asked yourself what you would do with the money if you ever won the lottery. We went back and looked up some former winners (in the region) to see what they did with their newfound wealth. Some of these smart folks are set for life.

Julie Amphlett

Julie is happy with her life. She bought her son a house and took care of a few family members, but still lives where whe always has and drives her 15-year old Honda. Julie says they still live just like they did. They shop at the same places, go to the same places, and have the same friends. The only difference is she has quit her job and can spend cold mornings wrapped up in bed. Julie said she had worked since she was 16-years-old and it was a welcome change. Other than that, life goes on.

Nigel Willetts

Nigel said the money did change his life but did not change him as a person. Nigel’s sister also won the lottery. She won £20,000. Nigel used his winnings to start a business. He runs trampoline parks in Swansea and Cardiff. He helped some relatives and paid for some holidays to Thailand, Mexico, and Florida. His big gift to himself was a beautiful new car. Nigel does warn people though. If you are a big winner, watch out for con-men and women.

Hospital Catering Syndicate

A group of Welsh hospital catering staff has handed in their notices after winning a £25,476,778.30 EuroMillions jackpot. Julie Saunders, Doreen Thompson, Louise Ward, Jean Cairns, Sian Jones and Julie Amphlett – have won an incredible £4,246,129.72 each.

This group had been playing for 6-years. All except Louise Ward, who came to the group in 2016. Louise had thought about skipping it because she was watching her money to pay for her upcoming wedding. But, she didn’t and she is the one who picked the numbers! All the workers except one turned in their notice and put down their spoons. With the exception of one of the ladies who had retired the year before.

As you can see, Wales is a lucky place to live. Cardiff and the surrounding areas seem to have luck all around them. With Lottoland online, betting could not be easier. I don’t know about you, but I would be placing my bets if I were just passing through!
