Neath Port Talbot Council has welcomed the UK Government’s confirmation of a further £22 million for businesses affected by changes at Tata Steel, announced this week by the Secretary of State for Wales, Jo Stevens MP.
The additional funding channelled through the Tata Steel Transition Board will help more local firms invest, grow, and create jobs in 2026.
Cllr Steve Hunt, Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, said: “The news of additional funding before Christmas is fantastic boost for local businesses. We’ve seen strong interest and uptake in these business support funds, and this means our Business Support and Economic Development Team can help more firms to move from challenge to growth in 2026 – investing, diversifying and creating well-paid jobs across the region.”
The announcement comes in response to the high demand for the funding provided by the Transition Board and the support it provides to businesses in Neath Port Talbot and across Wales within the Tata Steel supply chain.
The additional funding builds on the initial £80 million support from the UK Government to mitigate the impact of Tata Steel UK’s transition to greener steel making. This support includes the Start-up, Growth, Resilience and Supply Chain funds for business; the Employment and Skills Fund for affected individuals; regeneration projects; and Mental Health & Wellbeing support.
