Local artist, Louise Jones, and pupils from Richmond Park Primary School have met up at yr Atom this week to help celebrate the creation of a new mural for the town.

Earlier in the year pupils from Richmond Park School were tasked with designing and creating their own ‘Carmarthen’ and ‘Wales’ themed paintings which would form the foundation idea for aspects of the final mural.  Louise Jones was  then asked to create a colourful mural based on the pupils’ ideas and which celebrates Wales and Carmarthen’s unique culture.  Over the Summer holidays she spent her time painting the mural in time for the beginning of the new school term.

Director of Yr Atom, Angharad Harding, said:

“It was wonderful to welcome Louise and the pupils from Richmond Park School to yr Atom for the official unveiling of the new Carmarthen town mural.  The main objective of the project was to give local youngsters the responsibility of developing a brand new mural for yr Atom that is relevant to their culture, ideas and local area.

“This project gave the pupils an opportunity to come together and be creative and to develop their planning, collaborative and communication skills.  I’d like to thank everybody that has supported us with the work and I’d now urge everybody to visit yr Atom to see the mural for themselves.”

    Louise Jones added:

“I was delighted and honoured to have been asked to work with Richmond Park School and Yr Atom to create a mural that reflects key features of the town.  It was great to be able to meet up with the pupils this week and have a chat about the mural and the project. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with these very talented youngsters.”
