Chepstow’s Community Cabin Reopens to Offer Wellbeing Support

Trish Edwards, Head of Service for Monmouthshire Borough, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, with Cllr Tudor Thomas, Cabinet Member for Care, Safeguarding and Accessible Health, and Stacey White of Caldicot’s TogetherWorks.

Chepstow’s Community Cabin reopened on Monday 23rd May- for the first time since the Covid-19 Pandemic led to its temporary closure.

Based at Chepstow Community Hospital, the Cabin is a collaboration between Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and Monmouthshire County Council, and acts as a hub for the local community and for voluntary organisations. It’s a place where a wide range of wellbeing-focussed organisations can have a base, right in the heart of the community. This also creates a fantastic space for co-operation and working together, as well as a drop-in opportunity for members of the town’s community to find out about all the wellbeing services and events on their doorstep.

More than a dozen local information and advice organisations attended the opening, including Mind Monmouthshire, Autism Awareness, Papyrus, Monmouthshire Housing, Cyffanol Women’s Aid and the Ffrind I Mi befriending service.

Trish Edwards, Head of Service for Monmouthshire Borough, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, said: “It’s given the teams a  real boost to know the public will once again benefit from the services provided from the Cabin. There was a real sense of excitement from the many community members attending the opening and the hospital catering team supported with a delicious cake stall [donations to charity]. We look forward to welcoming one and all, supporting our local community and promoting wellbeing at every opportunity.’’

Cllr Tudor Thomas, Monmouthshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Care, Safeguarding and Accessible Health Services, attended the event and said: “It’s wonderful to see this vital community facility open to the public once again. We know that high quality information, advice and assistance is vital to helping people stay well in their communities and this is a great place for people to access that help and support while finding out about what’s happening in their local community.”

The Cabin is now open to the public, so local residents are encouraged pop by to find out more about wellbeing organisations and community opportunities in Chepstow and the south of Monmouthshire.
