Children make a great splash at the Pembrokeshire Schools Disability Swimming Gala

Sport Pembrokeshire have been delighted to host the 2024 Pembrokeshire Schools Disability Swimming Gala.

The event took place at Fishguard Leisure Centre on Tuesday 30th April.

This is the 16th year the event has been generously sponsored by Stena Line.

There was a fantastic turn out and support, with nearly forty children from eight Pembrokeshire primary schools and secondary schools participating in the event.

The gala gives disabled children a wonderful opportunity to showcase their skills and participate in a range of swimming styles.

The children took part in ten events with lots of heats ranging from 9m assisted float to 25m and 50m breaststroke, freestyle and butterfly.

The swimmers’ times were all recorded and it is hoped that some participants will be identified to sign up for the Swim Wales Para Talent ID programme.

Sport Pembrokeshire would like to express their particular thanks to the following people for their support and encouragement on the day.

  • John Havard – swimming teacher at Fishguard Leisure Centre
  • Ryan, Sion and Connor – Lifeguards and helpers from Fishguard Leisure Centre
  • Anne and Bob Adams – Swim Wales officiators
  • Saskia Peterson – Swim coordinator
  • Amy Brumby – Swim Wales
  • Eight Young Ambassadors from Ysgol Bro Gwaun
  • Gareth Mills Bennett from Disability Swim Wales and Nick Russell one of Pembrokeshire’s Development coaches – who both presented the medals and certificates.

The organisers are once again incredible grateful to the support of the Stena Line, the Gala’s key benefactor.
