The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) is hosting its next Skills and Training Conference at the Marriott Hotel in Cardiff on January 28.

The event will be packed full of engaging workshops and talks from key members of CITB’s executive and senior leadership team, including Tim Balcon, CEO, Deb Madden, Executive Director Customer Engagement and Operations, and Julia Stevens, Engagement Director Wales.

Highlights from the day’s packed agenda include Medr’s Director of Research, Innovation and Skills, Harriet Barnes, discussing the ongoing and upcoming priorities related to construction and the built environment; and Mark Tambini, Head of Building Regulations Policy for the Welsh Government discussing and providing an overview of the Building Safety Act and what the impacts will be on building regulations in Wales. The Lighthouse Charity will also be in attendance sharing the latest updates in their training offer and making evidence-based predictions about the future of the construction industry.

CITB’s Skills and Training Conference provides construction companies, employers and training providers the opportunity to learn more about relevant topics like the Building Safety Act and provides them with one-to-one support on accessing funding from CITB and the services it provides. The event is also an opportunity for CITB to engage and consult with its registered employers and training providers face to face.

Deb Madden, CITB’s Executive Director Customer Engagement and Operations, said: “Attending one of our conferences and hearing directly from us is the best way to learn about what’s on offer from CITB. It also gives employers the chance to network with like-minded companies and meet with training providers.

“Collaboration is vital to address the skills needs within the construction sector. This conference brings together voices from across the industry to discuss many different topics and ensure the workforce has the skills, confidence and all the opportunities that are needed to thrive.”

Earlier this week, the Welsh Government announced its final Budget for 2026-2027, and within the £1.2 billion pot, it committed a further £100 million of revenue and capital funding, which will support Welsh Government priorities including apprenticeships and further education.

There are several workshops throughout the day to choose from, and the event will end with a Q&A session with the CITB team.
