28 awards were presented to projects, partnerships and people actively making communities safer across Wales.

There was one overall winner, awarded to the Swansea City Chill project, in addition to 15 category awards and 12 highly commended awards. The awards showcase partnership working of organisations and agencies across Wales to improve the lives of individuals and create better community cohesion.

The Swansea City Chill project impressed the judges with its partnership working and having prevention at its core. It was a partnership between the Swansea Council Partnership & Involvement Team, South Wales Police’s Swansea City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team, Swansea Council Youth Justice Service & Barod, Swansea Council Evolve Youth Service, Swansea Council CMET (Missing, Exploited, trafficked Team), and Gower College Swansea.

The awards ceremony celebrated and showcased the great work being undertaken across Wales to prevent, reduce and make communities safer in categories such as Anti-Social Behaviour, Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence and Modern Slavery and Exploitation.

Winners came from across Wales and included Blaenau Gwent Anti-Social Behaviour Taskforce, Flintshire Youth Service’s Toxic Masculinity Project and the Powys Ukrainian Resettlement Team.

Jane Mudd, Co-Chair of the Safer Communities Board for Wales and Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent said:

“It is important to celebrate the strength of Community Safety Partnerships which respond to local needs and delivering genuinely life-changing initiatives that make our communities safer. This is an opportunity to celebrate existing work, learn from each other and take further steps towards keeping our communities safe in these tough times.”

Councillor Jason McLellan, Co-Chair of the Safer Communities Board for Wales and Leader for Denbighshire Council said:

“Like all public services, Local Government are having to respond to the demands of the public with restricted resources and under increasing difficult circumstances. And yet the pride in service delivery continues. These awards demonstrate the passion and dedication of the resilient employees across Wales working tirelessly to make people’s lives safer.”
